In 2007, my husband and I retired to Elizabethton, TN. We are non-violent non-gun-owners. I don’t see any need to have people carrying guns in parks of any kind, especially without a permit. Training is a must to have responsible gun-carrying. A person with a gun will choose that remedy first in any conflict. A person without a gun will find other ways to deal with problems. I have hiked a good portion of the Appalachian Trail, and I’ve never found a gun to be necessary.
I care about this issue because I grew up in a house where fear was rampant. My grandfather was a jailer, and we had bars on the windows of our house. I don’t want to live that way. Guns don’t improve the situation. One of our daughters has a carry permit, and it scares me to death. I wasn’t nearly as worried about her safety before she got the permit.
Please don’t make guns any more accessible or easy to carry. We don’t need to encourage fear.
